The success or failure of a leader can be gauged by the team he chooses. Khan has made some disastrous choices, some were carried along and swept by the current of loyalty. A few were discarded by events or of their own creation and others by the scope being beyond their abilities. This is the inherent danger of a political system whereby an elected can demand a position beyond his intelligence.

This is the inherent danger of democracy. An idiot can be propelled into power even though he may be a danger to the party, even worse, to the system. Pakistan stands at a fork in the road. The wrong choice will meet disaster for 200 million people. Khan’s hands are clean but many of his officers are not so.

A current example is the modern day miracle of the Chinese lifting 300 million people from poverty into a dazzling middle class.

The miracle was the formulation of a system that breeds success and will be the path to follow by all the other “have not nations.” Marx and Mao have been superseded by the new China model for want of a better name. Imran Khan has chosen the best system available to him. He aspired to the Medina model and is trying his best to emulate this brand. One with an impeccable history.

With the advantage of having God on his side, Imran Khan must make the best from the mortals surrounding him of which he must choose the best. However for any system to succeed his team must be the best.

Undoubtedly Imran Khan is a one man band with some failure followers whose only hope is to clamber aboard the Medina bus hoping to garner some of the Imran’s success or money along the way. They will falter and be discarded. Lacking is the inability of Imran to pick his whiz kids or dream team. Of such successes are leaders remembered and the teams that make this success possible.

All the great leaders of the world have been successful because of their ability to choose the best team, wisely which becomes their measure of success. Imran Khan must remember his success will be written in gold. His failure will not even rate a footnote.
