Playing With Fire
Published on December 02nd, 2020

The PMLN party is making a big mistake. In their baiting of Army Chief and the ISI chief, they are playing a dangerous game of dare. By heaping abuse on the two Generals, they are running the serious risk of retaliation.

When the taunting becomes too vociferous, many things can happen. Imran has not been targeted yet, as the opposition is focused on the two generals for now.

The abuse is getting louder and more shrill. In fact the abuse is in front of a huge crowd and the lack of a response can be misunderstood.

It can mean weakness or cowardice, so vicious are the taunts. No officer in the Army can allow such attacks on his honour.

His oath of office does not include defamation at the hands of politicians. These persons are taking liberties with soldiers that may be wearing uniforms, but they are not immune to anger and rage.

Specially when the taunts are also aimed at the uniform they wear. It is this uniform that they wear into battle against the enemy.

The people taunting the general have so far gotten away without a reaction. The danger can arise when this abuse may be considered as cowardice.

This can mislead the enemy India to assume that the Pakistan Army is of a similar bent. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the Indians are well aware of that. However the opposition parties are insisting on embarrassing Imran's Government, in this game of dare.

The opposition do not understand that the Government and the Establishment are more powerful than it appears. More importantly they have more weapons at their command than the mere ‘Danda’ that the Maulana is threatening with.

The government has much more at its disposal. Not the least being the cases pending against all the members of the opposition. The writ of the state is powerful, and if invoked the Maulana and Achakzai will find it difficult to hide.

If indeed the marches escalate, then the opposition will realise that they are out gunned. An interesting turn of events could occur if the revolt that is being encouraged by Maulana Diesel and Achakzai may be attacked by new forces.

Do these people not know that the people of Pakistan are well aware of the exact worth of these persons. The new command will be the have nots, and will reject the Diesel sobriquet.

They will be careful of the company they keep. By escaping into exile Nawaz has taken on the additional charge of an absconded. This can bring about penalties such as confiscation of properties and assets.

Is it any wonder that the Zardaris are so quiet. Politics cannot grant amnesty from all the pending cases nor can it bestow legality on ill gotten wealth. No judge alive would dare such a move.

The Maulana and Achakzai, are both daring the General and Imran to blink. This is unlikely, for the government has not exercise any any of the many options at it command. The General is trapped in a dangerous game of dare.

Unfortunately for us Pakistanis,we are witness to brinkmanship being practised by politicians who do not have the credibility or governance shown by their performance nor do they have the stomach for a fight, which will give them long jail sentences, this time really classy.

No Saudi or Qatar prince to bail them out. For this time it will be the people of Pakistan that will lead the charge.

The politicians have misread the signals. Imran was the chance for a peaceful change. Now the people will demand their due. The price hikes are nothing compared to the years of deprivation and poverty thrust upon this nation in the name of democracy.

The politicians have their true motives exposed, and nowadays fake news is easily identified on the social media.

Imran Khan will soon call the combined opposition parties bluff which could leave them stranded without any power.

As any one is aware, an ex MNA is of no value. Especially one with the stigma of corruption. Another simple step would be the disqualification through the election commission.

This move will soon come about, and will be a very punitive measure whose effects will be felt through out the political system.

A simple solution for a government, against which an opposition member cannot resist. Once he is disqualified he has no locus standee. This will be the obvious way to cleanse the assemblies. With many cases in court the membership should be suspended till the person is cleared. Simple yet durable, without any fuss.
The only requirement is a firm resolute Prime Minister.
