Articles of the year 2015

The hanging of Saulat Mirza, a long delayed a chapter of evil has now been closed. The confession of Saulat Mirza, that he was personally responsible for the execution of 129 persons, is shocking, made worse by the admission that he was acting under orders. Giving substance to the rumours of criminal activity being conducted by political parties. Nowhere in the world do political parties indulge in these activities. If any party is found involved, then the Party itself is liable to be banned. Politicians are the link to enforcement of the law, as defined in the constitution drafted by the same politicians. Without enforcement the constitution itself becomes meaningless, and of no value. The Establishment, consisting of all the vital pillars of the state the Government, the Judiciary, the Armed Forces and the bureaucracy, and the media, are all interconnected, and must strive to work together, and not to counter each other.
In Pakistan, the Government (politicians) have decided to work at their own agenda, one that discourages the enforcement of law, allowing law breakers to take control of the police and bureaucracy, both vital to law enforcement.
Saulat Mirza was one of the target killers who confessed to 129 murders, making him probably the most prolific gunman in the subcontinent. In fact as a murderer he ranks as the second in the world, most prolific after Louis Gravito from Colombia. Who had the dubious distinction of 133 confirmed kills. Thereby setting a record for evil, which has not been recognised in the bad bad world. Our own homegrown Saulat Mirza has propelled Pakistan into that special place for evil doers, achieving second place to the infamous Louis Gravito. Fortunately for us, the law has taken its course and he has been hanged. However the question of Saulat’s confession has not been buried with him. Leaving his evil amongst us, as Shakespeare put it three hundred years ago, ‘the evil that men do lives on after them, the good is oft interred with their bones.’ And so it is with the Evils of Saulat. His crimes will be remembered. Long after him.
This may be a good opportunity to pick on his confession, and to follow the trail, and bring to justice all those who were complicit.
Saulat’s death may finally have found a new meaning, and contribute to make up for all damage he has done to the country, in his life.
Pakistan is truly unfortunate, for, with all the good men produced here, we have some infamous ones as well. Since the days of Bhutto, some Pakistanis have indeed committed serious crimes, using their political power to evade the law. Bhutto himself encouraged his followers to disregard the law whenever they chose. Breaking the law became the norm, and Politicians have followed this pattern. After Benazir’s death the ascension of Zardari to the Presidency was just a matter of time, it was a foregone conclusion. The hallmark of the politicians, has been the deterioration of the law and order. The politicians have not realised that the law is essential to the preservation of the country. The continuation of lawlessness will lead to the eventual disintegration of the country. Even Nature has its own rules, and disobeying the rules can lead to the extinction of that species. The criminals will all disappear. The law will return, perhaps to be enforced by some one else, – maybe the erstwhile enemy.
It is obvious that both Nawaz Sharif and Zardari have no regard for the Courts or the constitution. This has been shown by the use of police in Model Town, when over 20 people were shot dead, and scores injured. In Karachi there was a repeat with many police in uniform and in plainclothes– but masked so that they could not be recognised. Zulfiqar Mirza had taken refuge in the High court judge’s chambers was eventually rescued by a contingent of the Rangers. Both the PMLN and the PPP have shown their complete disregard for the constitution and they have lost the right to govern. The Army will have to remove Asif Zardari from any further mischief, their parties should be banned, for they do not deserve to be allowed to exercise power at any level.
The latest newspaper reports show that Pakistanis have purchased 350 million dollars worth of property in Dubai in the last three months. (Dawn May 23 ). The only source of such huge amounts is the corruption in the Sindh Government. Where huge tracts of land are being transferred illegally, and the money squirrelled away into Dubai property. Soon the figure will be over a Billion dollars. Is the pakistan Army going to allow such a loot sale of Pakistani real estate? By Corrupt Pakistani politicians.? The danger is that these funds will be used to further destabilise Pakistan, by illegal means. Two political parties have admitted. to having their hearts still in India. The Pakistan Army will soon have to decide whether it can continue taking orders from people who are enemies of the state of Pakistan by behaviour, and by violation of the constitution. The same constitution they have sworn to uphold. The Army must act now.
