Our PM’s trip to New York, is a not so subtle reminder that, the Sharif Brothers have learned nothing from their roughing up at the hands of the Imran/Qadri duo, nor the mood of the public. While his party and supporters were all in a panic wondering when the axe was going to fall, Nawaz embarked for the US, blissfully unaware of the rumblings on the domestic front. The Party stalwarts are giving the impression that all is well, and that the days of Imran’s Dharna are numbered.
The fears of the people are, that the problems of public are not being addressed. Electricity is still in short supply, and people live and study in the dark. Compounding the water problems, and of course the unemployment that goes with industry being closed. Surely these are matters of National Emergency. Five days in New York, will not bring relief on any of these issues. Worse it will give fuel to the Nawaz detractors, with which to attack the Nawaz Government further. The Trip, coinciding with that of newly elected Prime Minister of India, Modi, ensures the absence of any Media interest. Does Pakistan, or our Prime Minister need this level of Media blackout. It will not be deliberate, but the ensuing disaster could have been avoided. The Media experts surrounding the PM’s secretariat are well aware of the fallout of the Modi Media blitz that will be orchestrated by the Indian Industrial and commercial giants, who are intent on encashing their candidate’s victory, and want to relish their day in the sun. This will serve to doubly prevent any crumbs coming our way. One can only wonder who has advised the PM to continue on his meaningless UN foray.
The Party planner must always look at the calender to ensure there is no ‘clash’ , and the guests will have no other event to divert their presence, or attention. Surely someone should have pointed out this obvious fact. Or perhaps the Dharnas were getting too uncomfortable! The contrast in styles will also be pointed out. Modi is on a five-day fast, and the White- house chefs are wracking their brains to design menus to respect the frugal and austere choices to be served. Meanwhile our PM has taken with him his own cook, who will be serving the special dishes of Kashmiri and Mughlai origin known for their richness and cost. The contrast will be even sharper. Especially with 120 million people living on less than 2 dollars a day, and watching their crops and livestock drowning in the floodwaters. No, this was a time to stay home and pinch pennies,not to indulge in Presidential suites, and Mughlai dishes. Ignoring the devastating floods and unemployment back home, is even more sinful than in times of plenty.
The Imran Khan Dharna continues, creating more nervousness in the PMLN ranks. The PPP is pretending that the matter does not concern them. Not realizing that the accountability promised by the Khan targets both the Looters, Nawaz and Asif. Both have supported each other to the extent that a mutual safeguard Charter of Democracy was signed by Asif and Nawaz, to protect themselves against any one else. The futility of the ‘New York’ trip was highlighted further by the PMLN efforts at damage control, making a comical scene funnier. Rumour has it that a PIA 777 waited at JFK while PM Nawaz Sharif marked his attendance. The Indian spin doctors, marked Nawaz Sharif’s attendance on Modi’s audience rating! The Last 10 years of our political leadership has seen a decline in every aspect of our life. Whether it be Corruption, Crime, Cost of Living. Every one of these has shown a disastrous decline, and could be used as an example against democracy. The truth lies in the usurping of power by a few dishonest and criminal elements. Bent upon coming into power by any means, and then using that power to protect themselves and their cronies, and to milk the State with impurity.
Fortunately for Pakistan, Imran has appeared on the political scene, and in a few months has exposed the sleaze within the PMLN ranks. This has been compounded by the incompetence of the Sharif Brothers, and their reluctance to find people of merit. In any company, if the quality of the employees deteriorates, then, surely that company will collapse. It is exactly the same with the Political parties. The quality of the members will define the success of failure of the Party. A collection of Gullu Butts, can only hasten the demise, not prolong its life. It is a law of nature. The rotten will fail, and then fall. The insistence of Nawaz Sharif to cling on to power, power that he managed to grab through means that are now being examined, and being found illegal. The courts must decide quickly and whatever law has been broken or tampered, the punishment must be swift, and severe. So that a bent politician may not use political power to protect himself or his crimes. There are far too many political criminals on the loose. Plotting and making money through power is his most important goal. Removing this diseased part will not only bring about a new set of workers, but will rid the party from any people with ulterior motives from joining, or using politics as a springboard for making money.
